In her earliest performance work, Clark followed the general trajectory of many visual artists now working in performance, moving herself into the gallery space for the duration of the exhibition. In the process, she not only brought her own life into an aesthetic framework, as other performance artists have done, but in her frank and open interactions with visitors to the gallery went further, valorizing reception and the role of the spectator in making meaning.
